Trainer Gear

Updated on

When playing Pokémon GO, the gear you bring matters as much as the Pokémon you battle alongside. That’s why I’ve created a list of items every trainer should consider having. Whether it’s a battery to adventure all-day or a quality umbrella for the rain, there’s something for everyone.

Anker PowerCore 10000 PD

The fastest power bank available

Portable, Fast, and Reliable. This one of the fastest charging power banks available on the market. The 10000mAh capacity on this device can charge modern smartphones like the iPhone 11 and the Samsung S10 to full almost three times.

If you haven’t picked up a portable battery, then now might the time to consider it. The Anker PowerCore 10000 PD provides one of the best value for the size. It’s smaller than a wallet and is exceptionally light. This little power ingot will provide almost three full charges for most modern smartphones.

This power bank features a USB-C Power Delivery (PD) port which allows you to take advantage of faster-charging technology for both charging the battery itself and charging your phone. If not, there is always the standard USB-A output. If you don’t have a USB-C charger (your iPhone or Android charger might already fit the bill), you’ll need to pick one up, like the Anker 30 W USB-C Wall Charger.

If you don’t think you’ll make use of the Power Delivery port, you can pick up the similar Anker PowerCore 10000.

If you want a Power Delivery port but want more battery capacity, you can check out the Anker PowerCore 20000 PD. If you want to go to the extreme, there is the even higher capacity Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD. Both of these products include the USB-C wall charger to rapidly charge them.

Dual Catchmon

An automatic GO Plus for 2 trainers

The best companion device to play while staying in the moment. It’s always on standby for when you need a helping hand collecting items, catching Pokémon, or hatching Eggs.

The Dual Catchmon connects up to two phones and provides a simple way to automatically catch Pokémon, collect items, and track distance without ever needing to look at your phone or click a button. Basically, it’s an automatic Pokémon GO Plus for two trainers.

My favorite feature of this device is how it’s always on standby and always ready to connect. Let me explain: once you’ve done the initial setup, you can toss the device in a bag or keep it in your pocket. Each time after that, just tap on the icon in-game to reconnect to the Dual Catchmon. You NEVER need to interact with the device to reconnect like other devices. I cannot stress how convenient that is when compared to the first-party Pokémon GO Plus or Poké Ball Plus. Additionally, my experience with the Bluetooth connection has been much more positive with the Dual Catchmon than other accessories. That’s less time on my phone and more time being in the moment.

A few final notes: This device is produced by a third-party and has the same limitations of the Pokémon GO Plus. These limitations include the device can only use Red Poké Balls to catch Pokémon and it will need to reconnect every hour or so. It also uses two AAA batteries for power and can drain quickly with heavy use. If you want a rechargeable solution, you can pick up rechargeable batteries like the Panasonic Eneloop. Outside of that, this is my favorite device because of it’s ease of use and reliability.

A solid Umbrella

A sturdy, affordable umbrella that can hold up to high winds. Great for running out in the rain to catch that Lotad. It also comes in a variety of colors so you can represent your team.

You can see more colors by visiting amazon.com

It’s a pretty simple item that might get overlooked, but a quality umbrella has been valuable in battling the NYC weather. The Repel Easy Touch Umbrella is a solid umbrella that can be carried around on the go. When packed up, it comes out at 11.5 inches and weighs less than a pound. Despite its portability, it can protect you from heavy rains and hold its own in high winds. If you don’t believe me, Repel even backs it with a Lifetime replacement guarantee.

Hydro Flask Water Bottle

The Best Water Bottle

The Hydro Flask is a insulated steel bottle can keep your beverage of choice at your preferred temperature for hours. Even if you’re just drinking water, it’s lightweight and leak proof.

The insulated stainless steel bottle is lightweight and won’t spring a leak in your bag. The bottle comes in a wide range of colors and sizes so you can find one that’s suited for your needs.

Leek Badge - Enamel Pin

Guaranteed to increase your shiny chance*

Some achievements can’t be bought. But this isn’t one of them. Show your support with a shiny Leek!
*Not guaranteed to increase your shiny chances

The Leek Badge is an absolute essential for every trainer. It is guaranteed to increase encounters of rare Pokémon and allows you reach level 41.

Of course… not really. But purchasing one means a lot and helps support the content I create. It’s a great collectible, lucky charm, or neat pin to put on your bag. If pins aren’t your thing you can check out the Jelly Donut Cap. Who doesn’t love jelly donuts?

This page isn’t quite complete yet so I’ll be adding new recommendations in the future. Check back to see what’s new.
